Stars join Wörthersee lifeguard series shoot

Several prominent actors have arrived in Velden for filming of the planned series “Lifeguards of Lake Wörthersee”, ORF reported on Thursday. The production is recalling the former television hit “A Castle on Lake Wörthersee”, which was filmed in the region about 30 years ago. Music legend Heino is also taking part.

The new project aims to establish another successful series from Carinthia. Julian F. M. Stoeckel plays Julian, the head of the lifeguards. “I am basically the gay version of Roy Black, in a very beautiful and colourful form. Now we are turning Wörthersee back into Hollywood,” Stoeckel told ORF.

Cabaret performer Christoph Fälbl is also involved. Stefanie Mayer from Vienna has directed the production since filming began on Monday and also wrote the script. “We are making this pilot episode now and will then look for a broadcaster. We will see who it will actually be,” Mayer said.

Aside from the city of Klagenfurt, the project has received no public funding. Private investor Thomas Seitlinger agreed to support the production after seeing how hard the team was working to make it happen.

Heino plays himself and is also involved in an action scene at the lake. “I am rescued in the film, and it is good that I am rescued,” he said. The pilot ends with a song by Heino that Roy Black had previously sung.
