Separate forestry accidents seriously injure two 24-year-olds

Two 24-year-old men were seriously injured in separate forestry accidents in Carinthia on Tuesday, ORF reported. One was hit in the face by a broken steel cable in Obervellach, while the other trapped his fingers between two holders in Greifenburg.

The man from Romania was working with two colleagues in Obervellach when the accident occurred at about 12.15 p.m. A steel cable on a winch broke while felled trees were being transported and struck him in the face.

Because the exact location was initially unclear, firefighters and mountain rescuers searched for the injured man on foot in steep and difficult terrain. They were later able to relay his position to the emergency medical helicopter.

After receiving first aid from an emergency doctor, the man was carried out of the forest by mountain rescuers. Poor weather and visibility prevented an aerial rescue. He was taken to an ambulance on a forest road and then transported to the helicopter before being flown to Klagenfurt Hospital.

In Greifenburg, the second 24-year-old was injured while securing material between two holders. His fingers became trapped between them, causing serious injuries. After receiving initial treatment, he was flown by the emergency medical helicopter RK 1 to the UKH Klagenfurt.
