Passenger trapped after car overturns on A2 near Ligist

A passenger was trapped when a car overturned on the A2 motorway near Ligist late Sunday evening, ORF reported. The driver escaped from the wreck without assistance, and both injured men were taken to hospital.

The two 46-year-old Slovak men were travelling towards Arnoldstein at about 11 p.m. when their car suddenly left the motorway. It crossed an embankment, overturned and came to rest in the first lane.

Firefighters from Ligist and Steinberg freed the passenger using hydraulic rescue equipment, police said. Thirty-five firefighters took part in the operation.

The driver and passenger were taken to a hospital in Wolfsberg, Carinthia. The cause of the crash remains unknown.
