Austrian Post expands 24 hour self service stations

Austrian Post is expanding its 24 hour self service stations in Vorarlberg as demand for round the clock services remains high, ORF Vorarlberg reports.
The stations allow customers to collect and redirect parcels at any time. Parcels and letters can also be sent from them if they have already been franked.
According to a Post survey, one in three people in Vorarlberg has parcels delivered directly to a self service station. Customers can also have parcels redirected there when they are not at home, or collect them using the notification card left by the postal worker.
The Post said the trend towards 24 hour services was continuing throughout Austria. It is regularly assessing demand and may continue expanding the network.
Post offices and postal partners in Vorarlberg will remain in place despite the expansion. The region currently has 14 Post offices and 49 postal partners, one of which opened this year.
The most recent closure was a Post office at Zimbapark, a shopping centre in Bürs, at the end of April. The Post said it was working on a suitable solution for local residents and would present it in the coming weeks.
The number of parcels delivered in Vorarlberg has quadrupled over the past 10 years, rising from around three million in 2016 to more than 11 million in 2025. Despite seasonal fluctuations, the highest volumes are still recorded before Christmas.
