Burgenland exceeds Austria average in childcare and graduation rates

Burgenland has a higher rate of institutional childcare for children aged three to five than the Austrian average, according to ORF, citing figures from the new education statistics published by Statistics Burgenland.

Nearly 97 percent of three to five year olds in the province receive institutional childcare, compared with an average of 94.3 percent across Austria.

About 10,600 children attended early childhood education facilities in Burgenland during the 2025/26 education year, Education Councillor Daniela Winkler of the Social Democratic Party said in a statement on Thursday.

About half of primary school children receive all day or afternoon care. At middle schools, the share is around one quarter.

Burgenland also performs above the national average in school leaving qualifications. The latest figures show that 49.8 percent of students have passed the Matura, an upper secondary school leaving examination. That means about one in two students in Burgenland has completed the qualification.
