Suspected Dorotheum robber leaves loot behind

A masked man suspected of carrying out a robbery at a Dorotheum branch in Vienna left the alleged loot behind while fleeing, ORF reported. Police have not yet found the suspect.

According to the current investigation, the man, who was probably armed with a firearm, entered the branch on Währinger Straße on Thursday afternoon. Four Dorotheum employees managed to leave the premises.

Police are securing and analysing evidence, while investigators review surveillance footage and question witnesses. Police spokeswoman Irina Steirer said the witnesses’ descriptions of the suspect so far are consistent.

Special police units quickly surrounded the building on Thursday. The suspected loot was found at the scene and was apparently left inside the branch during the suspect’s escape.
