Six fire brigades tackled a field fire in Holzschlag in the Oberwart district on Wednesday afternoon and prevented the flames from spreading to a nearby forest, ORF reported.

The fire broke out at about 1.30pm on a field in Holzschlag, a village in the municipality of Unterkohlstätten. Crews from Holzschlag, Unterkohlstätten, Oberkohlstätten, Günseck, Glashütten bei Schlaining and Bernstein responded. No one was injured.

Ongoing dry conditions are increasing the risk of fires. Fire brigades urged residents to exercise caution and avoid open flames and all ignition sources in nature.

Drinking water supplies are also under strain in many municipalities, affecting the availability of water for firefighting. Residents have been asked to avoid unnecessary water use, including filling pools and washing cars, to help secure supplies for the public and emergency services.
