A car fire in an underground garage at Garnmarkt in Götzis prompted a large-scale response on Saturday, ORF Vorarlberg reported. About 140 emergency personnel attended, and no one was injured.

The vehicle, which had a combustion engine, caught fire in the engine compartment. The fire alarm and full sprinkler system activated, with sprinklers operating directly above the car and helping contain the blaze, incident commander Markus Süss told ORF Vorarlberg.

Fire crews found and extinguished the car quickly, although heavy smoke had filled the garage, which has more than 900 parking spaces. Several teams wearing breathing apparatus searched the entire garage and found no injured or missing people.

Firefighters were still using fans to clear the smoke on Saturday evening. The response involved the fire services of Götzis, Koblach, Mäder, Altach and Rankweil.
