Mölltaler Glacier opens Carinthia’s ski season
The Mölltaler Glacier opened Carinthia’s 2026/27 ski season on Saturday, with skiing scheduled to continue until May 30, 2027, ORF reported.
Carinthia’s cable-car operators are investing about 53 million euros this winter in snowmaking, piste preparation, energy efficiency and new facilities, officials said at a press conference at the glacier.
Provincial Tourism Councillor Sebastian Schuschnig and Provincial Councillor for Municipal Affairs Marika Lagger-Pöllinger said the ski industry was important to the region. Schuschnig said skiers could use the slopes at the state’s highest ski area, at an altitude of 2,800 metres, until the end of May.
Lagger-Pöllinger said ski areas were important both to local residents and to municipalities and the regional economy. She was representing provincial governor Daniel Fellner at the press conference.
Another 23 ski areas plan to open between November and Christmas, depending on snow conditions and cold weather. Schuschnig also pointed to changes linked to a tourism reform, including free rides for visitors and an infrastructure fund.
