Frogs in Pasching can continue croaking at night after Austria’s Supreme Court ended a years-long dispute between neighbours, ORF reported. The frogs settled in a swimming pond without the owners’ involvement and are protected by conservation law.
The dispute began when a neighbour complained about the frogs’ loud calls at night. A court initially ordered the pond owners to make the frogs quieter between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., without specifying how they should do so.
The Linz Regional Court later overturned that ruling, and the case went to the Supreme Court, which ruled that the frogs may stay and continue croaking.
Rudi Hemetsberger, the Greens’ nature conservation spokesperson in Upper Austria, welcomed the decision. “Nature cannot simply be switched to mute,” he said.
