The District Court of Brig has convicted former Swiss-Ski vice-president Claude-Alain Schmidhalter of criminal mismanagement with intent to obtain financial gain, SRF reported. It sentenced him to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, and imposed a 5,000-franc fine.
The court acquitted Schmidhalter and a former business partner of fraud. The case is unrelated to Schmidhalter’s roles in sport.
Prosecutors had accused the two men of irregularities in the management of an engineering company in Upper Valais and of causing a former employee losses of more than 300,000 francs. They had sought a suspended 23-month prison sentence, a 10,000-franc fine and repayment of 55,000 francs for Schmidhalter. The defence had called for an acquittal.
