Alcohol-impaired driver seriously injures pedestrian

A 21-year-old driver who was under the influence of alcohol hit and seriously injured a 75-year-old pedestrian on Thursday evening in Kirchschlag in the Bucklige Welt municipality, ORF reported, citing police.

The pedestrian was crossing the road when he was struck by the driver’s van. Police said the driver may have failed to see him because he was wearing dark clothing.

The injured man was flown by the Christophorus 16 emergency medical helicopter to a clinic in Oberwart. An alcohol test found the driver to be mildly intoxicated, the Lower Austria State Police Directorate said on Friday.
