Kitchen fire kills two cats in Gießhübl apartment building
Two cats died in a kitchen fire at a residential complex in Gießhübl, in the Mödling district, on Thursday. No people were injured, ORF reported.
Dense smoke was already coming from a fourth-floor apartment window when emergency crews were called on Thursday afternoon. Twenty-six people responded, according to the Gießhübl volunteer fire brigade. Firefighters tackled the flames from inside, including crews wearing breathing apparatus.
The apartment’s residents were not home. The cats died at the scene. After extinguishing the fire, firefighters used pressurised ventilation in the apartment and checked for remaining hot spots. The operation lasted about three hours.
Police have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
