A 54-year-old man who was buried up to his neck during excavation work in Tarsdorf, in Braunau district, remains in critical but stable condition, ORF reported Friday, citing Salzburg Accident Hospital.
The man was working with an excavator operator and his wife on Thursday to install drainage. He was standing in a trench about two metres deep when excavated earth stored beside it collapsed into the trench and buried him.
Firefighters and the excavator operator tried to free him. He lost consciousness and was pulled out after about 10 minutes. After being resuscitated, he was flown by rescue helicopter to the hospital in Salzburg.
