A World War II bomb found in the Mur riverbed in Judenburg was defused on Thursday after nearby buildings were evacuated, ORF Steiermark reported.

Workers discovered the bomb at about 2.30pm while excavating at a nearby construction site. Police called in a specialist explosives officer and the bomb disposal service, which decided to defuse it where it was found.

Nearby homes and business buildings were evacuated, and roads in Judenburg were temporarily closed to all traffic. Bomb disposal experts made both of the bomb’s fuses safe. The restrictions were lifted at about 5.52pm.
