Burgenland has awarded seven people cultural and science prizes, granting a total of 28,000 euros in prize money and scholarships, ORF reported.
Artist Manuela Picallo Gil received the largest award, 12,000 euros, for a project exploring Burgenland’s cultural diversity. She plans to collect personal stories and turn them into an interdisciplinary work involving sound, movement and visual figures and costumes made from different fabrics and forms.
Anna Carina Roth received 5,000 euros in the contemporary visual arts competition for work focused on memory and communication. Writers Elke Steiner and David Hoffmann will share a 5,000-euro literature scholarship for their novel projects, “Das Haus am Kap” and “Außenerde.”
Anna Zechmeister and Valentino Priber each received 500 euros in the Young Science competition for outstanding school-leaving projects. Martin Pieber received the 5,000-euro Simon Goldberger Prize for remembrance and commemorative culture. He researched the Jewish history of Neusiedl am See and helped initiate the Holocaust memorial.
State councillor Leonhard Schneemann of the Social Democratic Party presented the awards. He said competitions of this kind were important to cultural development because they brought forward people whose work stood out.
