Gregor Matjan, formerly head of tourism in the Bavarian municipality of Ruhpolding, has taken charge of Salzburg’s Tourism Salzburg GmbH, ORF reports. He has been responsible since Monday for the company’s three main areas: Salzburg Congress, tourism marketing for the city and the Paracelsus Bath and Spa Centre.

Matjan previously led the Ruhpolding tourism company and has experience in both tourism and swimming facilities. In the municipality, he was also responsible for Vita Alpina, which offers swimming, sauna and ice sports.

“After intensive years in tourism management, I am looking forward to bringing my experience to Salzburg,” Matjan said in a statement. He said he wanted to bring calm and continuity to the company and work with the team on the goals and projects of Vision Salzburg 2040, while also ensuring day-to-day operations continued.

Matjan earned a doctorate in political science at the University of Vienna. He has held roles in tourism and destination management, including at SalzburgerLand Tourismus GmbH, and has worked as a business consultant and lecturer at FH Wien. He lives with his family near Mattsee in the Flachgau region.

The city of Salzburg owns TSG in full. The company markets the city to tourists and is responsible for the Paracelsus Bath and Spa Centre. Salzburg Congress hosted 90 events last year, while the city recorded 3.1 million overnight stays.
