Security guard’s pepper spray injures 40 outside Vienna nightclub

Forty people needed medical attention after a security guard sprayed pepper spray towards a crowd outside a nightclub in Vienna’s Leopoldstadt district overnight into Sunday, ORF reported.

Police had been called over the large crowd and disorderly scenes. Officers tried to contact the venue’s security staff, but a security employee sprayed the crowd.

Two 18-year-olds and a 19-year-old were taken to hospital. The 23-year-old security employee was reported on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. A police officer affected by the spray was treated and then returned to duty, Vienna police said.
