Transporter burns out in Ambergtunnel, six occupants escape

A transporter burned out in the Ambergtunnel, a road tunnel, early Sunday, but all six people inside escaped, ORF reported. The cause of the fire is unknown.

The fire was reported at about 2.50 a.m. The transporter was travelling towards Bludenz when it caught fire. Four occupants escaped through the tunnel tube carrying traffic towards Bregenz, while the Frastanz fire brigade rescued the other two from an escape tunnel.

The Rankweil fire brigade extinguished the fully ablaze vehicle using two tanker fire engines, according to initial information. Both tunnel tubes were closed during the operation, and traffic was diverted.
