Emergency services in Upper Austria reported a largely quiet Halloween night, with no major incidents, ORF reported. A waste-paper container caught fire late Saturday in Wels after firecrackers had reportedly been set off repeatedly nearby.

Firefighters were called to the Noitzmühle residential area in Lichtenegg, a district of Wels. A large police contingent was already at the scene when they arrived. The container was believed to have been set alight by a firecracker. Firefighters extinguished what remained of it.

Police in Linz had prepared for the night with heightened attention after social media posts called for possible unrest. Officers were placed on increased alert.
