Vienna’s public transport operator Wiener Linien is running more frequent services on many routes for All Saints’ Day to handle increased travel to cemeteries, ORF reports. Drivers should also expect delays around cemeteries, particularly on access roads and near car parks.
Trams 71 and 11, which serve the Central Cemetery, will run more often. Tram 11 will start service at 7 a.m. Bus services will also be increased, including route 41A to Neustift Cemetery, 47A to Baumgartner Cemetery, and routes 46A and 46B to Ottakring Cemetery. Route 63A will run every 10 minutes to Southwest Cemetery.
Special cemetery bus routes 38B and 39B connect the cemeteries in Nußdorf, Heiligenstadt and Sievering. They operate only on All Saints’ Day and Christmas Eve.
Until 2000, tram route 35 ran only on November 1, linking various parts of Vienna with the Central Cemetery. Special All Saints’ Day services were once common in European cities to manage the high number of cemetery visits during the holiday.
