Two women arrested after Linz attack leaves woman seriously injured

Two 18-year-old women have been arrested on suspicion of seriously injuring a 63-year-old woman in Linz in early October, ORF reported. A witness was also attacked.

Police said the older woman suffered several broken ribs and bruising to her left upper arm. Her injuries were serious enough to require intensive care at an accident hospital. The attack on the woman, who is from Linz, was carried out without any apparent reason, police said.

A 22-year-old Afghan national was also targeted. The women allegedly threatened him to stop him from reporting the incident. After he contacted police, a physical altercation followed and he was injured.

Police arrested the two women and transferred them to Linz prison. They are under investigation on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. The Linz public prosecutor’s office is investigating the circumstances and motive.
