A man allegedly threatened passengers on Vienna bus route 13A with an emergency hammer before smashing a bus stop’s glass panel on Friday, ORF reported.
Witnesses said the man had been shouting on the bus around midday before pulling the hammer from its mount and threatening several passengers. He got off at the stop on Mommsengasse and struck the glass before fleeing.
The driver and several passengers provided police with a description and details of his escape. Witnesses said he ran into an apartment building on a nearby street, where officers arrested him in a corridor on the top floor.
The 34-year-old Austrian had several cuts on his hands and was taken to hospital. After questioning, he was reported to prosecutors while remaining at liberty, on the order of the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office.
