Man dies in house fire in Vienna’s Donaustadt

A 59-year-old man died in a house fire in Vienna’s Donaustadt district on Friday evening, ORF reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Vienna professional fire brigade and the Wien-Breitenlee volunteer fire brigade were called to the house on Pelargonienweg at about 8 p.m. Flames were coming from a door and dense smoke was visible when crews arrived.

Firefighters entered the building from the front and rear to tackle the blaze and search for anyone inside. They found the man, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Seven fire engines and 33 personnel attended the incident.

Police said the fire may have started in the kitchen. The State Criminal Police Office is investigating the cause.
