New Inn bridge opens between Mils bei Imst and Schönwies
A new bridge over the Inn between the municipalities of Mils bei Imst and Schönwies opened to traffic on Friday, replacing a crossing built in 1936. The project cost about 5.2 million euros, ORF reported.
The 71.5-metre-long, 13.25-metre-wide bridge includes a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists, and extends the long-distance Inn cycle route. It is also designed to withstand flooding better than its predecessor, with a larger opening for water to flow through.
A temporary bridge was used during construction, which ran from October 2025 to October 2026, to limit disruption to traffic. It will now be dismantled, along with temporary embankments. Remaining work, including drainage installations and landscaping, is expected to finish by the end of May 2027.
Mils bei Imst Mayor Bernhard Schöpf and Schönwies Mayor Reinhard Raggl said the new crossing would provide a safer, reliable connection for the region. Tirol Deputy Governor Josef Geisler said it would support mobility across the Oberland.
