Munich Kammerspiele choose three-person leadership team
Anja Dirks, Antú Romero Nunes and Jörg Pohl are set to lead the Munich Kammerspiele from the 2028/29 season, BR reported. The city council’s culture committee approved the proposal on Thursday, but the full council will make the final decision on November 25.
The trio is due to lead the theatre for five seasons. They were selected after several rounds of voting among numerous candidates, following a recommendation by the city’s culture department based on the work of a selection committee.
Dirks, Nunes and Pohl have worked together since the 2020/21 season, jointly leading the drama division at Theater Basel. Dirks is a dramaturg, Nunes a director and Pohl an actor.
They will succeed Barbara Mundel, who took over as artistic director in 2020. Her contract was extended to 2028, but after the city advertised the position for the 2028/29 season, Mundel said she would not seek to continue.
The Kammerspiele have recently had a successful run, with two productions invited to the 2026 Berlin Theatertreffen and the theatre named Theatre of the Year.
