A man died in a fire at an inhabited wooden hut in Fürstenfeld on Wednesday evening, ORF reported. Gas cylinders stored at the hut exploded several times during the blaze.

Neighbours in Mühlbreiten, a district of Fürstenfeld, heard a loud bang at about 6.30pm and went to investigate. They found the hut, which police said was used as a home by its 63-year-old owner, on fire.

About 30 firefighters responded. Drones were also used to assess the danger from the explosions. Once emergency crews were able to enter the hut, they found a dead person. An autopsy is expected to determine whether the victim was the owner; the identity has not yet been confirmed.

Investigators found that the fire began in the floor area of the hut. Police said an electrical fault in a live power line could not be ruled out, but there were no indications of arson. The hut was almost completely destroyed, and the cost of the damage is not yet known.
