Tyrol’s public employment service expects staff losing their jobs when four Depot stores close to find new work quickly, citing about 1,500 vacancies in the region’s retail sector, ORF reports.
The closures are scheduled for the end of January 2027. The affected stores are at the DEZ shopping centre in Innsbruck, and in Nußdorf-Debant, Kitzbühel and Imst. AMS deputy regional director Johannes Schranz said there was still time to support employees with their job searches.
The DEZ store will sell its remaining goods at a 30 percent discount until it closes. Centre manager Florian Prodinger said DEZ regretted Depot’s departure, adding that the retailer had been a good fit for the centre. There are already interested parties for the vacant premises, according to information available to the centre.
Retailers in Tyrol face pressure from consumers’ efforts to save money, high rents and energy costs, as well as online shopping, Schranz said. Businesses in the mid-price range are facing the greatest challenges. However, employment in Tyrol’s retail sector is rising, contrary to the national trend, while unemployment remains relatively stable.
