Bavaria faces cooler, foggier days after mild autumn spell
Bavaria is heading into cooler, often foggy weather after a final spell of summer-like warmth, BR24 reported Wednesday. A cold front is bringing clouds, periods of rain and lower temperatures, but no significant winter outbreak is expected in the first days of November.
On Tuesday, sunshine pushed temperatures in many parts of Bavaria to 18 to 20 degrees Celsius, and locally above 20. Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Kempten reached 20.4 degrees, while Wielenbach, south of Lake Ammersee, recorded 21.5 degrees.
On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to fall to between 9 and 13 degrees in many places as the cold front crosses the state. From Thursday, high pressure is forecast to bring mostly dry conditions through the weekend.
However, fog and low cloud could linger in river valleys and lower-lying areas, sometimes all day. The Danube valley and Alpine foothills may stay cool and grey, while higher parts of the low mountain ranges and the Alps have better chances of sunshine. Lowland temperatures are expected to reach around 8 to 14 degrees. Nights could bring temperatures close to freezing in some places, with ground frost possible.
Early November is expected to bring settled but often grey autumn weather, with daytime temperatures mostly in the single digits or low teens. Temporary precipitation could fall as snow at higher elevations in the Alps, but there is not yet reliable evidence of snow reaching lower elevations. Some forecasts suggest a possible cooling later in November, but that does not point to an imminent winter outbreak.
Sunny autumn days remain possible, although their arrival will depend increasingly on whether fog and low cloud clear. The golden autumn could last longer in the mountains than in the lowlands.
