Salzburg’s trade union and Chamber of Commerce have firmly opposed Sunday opening in food retail, ORF reports, saying longer opening hours are not needed.
Chamber of Commerce President Peter Buchmüller, who is a food retailer, said both employees and employers opposed the change. He added that good staff were already hard to find and Sunday opening would not improve the situation.
The debate was prompted by NEOS State Secretary Sepp Schellhorn, who wants longer opening hours to be possible especially for owner-run shops, where proprietors or their families work in the business.
