crime, Graz, Styria

An 18-year-old is in custody after allegedly attacking a 40-year-old man with a broken beer bottle in Graz, ORF reports.

The argument began at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Lend district of Graz. Witnesses said the younger man broke a beer bottle and made several slashing and striking motions with the shards.

The 40-year-old avoided more serious injuries by dodging and using a chair, police said. He suffered superficial cuts to one hand.

The suspect ran when police arrived but was caught and arrested. A breath test showed he was significantly intoxicated, and he said he had also used drugs.

He denied carrying out the attack during questioning. The Graz prosecutor’s office applied for his detention and ordered that he be taken to Graz-Jakomini prison.
