An 18-year-old driver was injured when his car left the B124, rolled over and struck trees near Wartberg ob der Aist, a municipality in Freistadt district, early Tuesday. The impact tore the engine block from the vehicle and set it on fire, ORF reported.

The driver told police he had swerved to avoid a deer while travelling from Unterweitersdorf towards Pregarten at about 3.38am. The car went onto the roadside verge and continued down the embankment. It struck a tree, rolled onto its side twice and came to rest upright on the slope.

Firefighters from Wartberg ob der Aist and Unterweitersdorf quickly extinguished the blaze. The driver was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed using hydraulic rescue equipment. After receiving initial treatment from an emergency doctor, he was taken to Freistadt State Hospital. The emergency response ended at about 6am.
