The early childhood education college in Bischofshofen will remain at its current location and gain about a third more floor space in a planned €24 million redevelopment, ORF Salzburg reports.
The winning design, submitted by architecture firm dunkelschwarz ZT GmbH, was selected from 64 entries in a competition. It proposes adding floors and expanding the school compactly, while also creating more outdoor space. Plans include a large practical-training kindergarten and a new boarding school.
The school is also set to adopt a new layout without permanent classrooms for individual classes. Instead, it would use a department system, with specialist rooms equipped for particular subjects, director Christoph Schöffmann said.
The two-year construction period could require the school to move temporarily to St. Johann, where premises at the Elisabethinum are expected to become available from 2029. Discussions about the temporary relocation are ongoing.
