Women in Tirol earn about 18% less than men, equivalent to 67 days of unpaid work, the Austrian Trade Union Federation says, according to ORF. Tirol’s Equal Pay Day falls on October 26 this year, considerably earlier than the nationwide date.

The federation puts the annual difference at about 11,800 euros, based on average gross yearly earnings for full-time workers. It cites women’s higher part-time employment, the unequal share of unpaid care work and differences between male- and female-dominated industries as key reasons.

The gap varies across Tirol. Schwaz has the largest difference, at nearly 22%, followed by Imst and Reutte. Innsbruck city has the smallest gap in the region, at about 10%.

The federation called for Austria to implement the European Pay Transparency Directive, saying Italy has already done so. It also said work that is essential to society, often performed disproportionately by women and paid less, should receive better pay.
