Fallen tree causes prolonged power outage in Abtenau

Monday 26th October 2026 on 11:15 in Austria

Abtenau, Obertrum, storm damage

A tree fell onto a power line during a storm on Sunday evening, causing a prolonged outage in parts of Abtenau’s town centre, ORF reported. Firefighters also responded to several other incidents in Abtenau and Obertrum.

The Abtenau volunteer fire brigade was working to establish an emergency power supply shortly after 7 p.m. when it was called to a fire alarm at a temporary school building used by Abtenau Middle School. The alarm proved false.

At the school’s new building, a 40-metre construction fence had fallen in the wind and blocked a pavement and road. Firefighters put it back up and secured it. In the early hours, they were called to remove a fallen deciduous tree that blocked a road across its full width.

In Obertrum, a tree fell across a road shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday. The volunteer fire brigade secured the scene and cut up the tree. Sixteen firefighters and two vehicles attended.
