Police detain speeding driver after patrol car collision near Villach

Police detained a 21-year-old man near Villach after he tried to evade a traffic stop and his car collided with a patrol vehicle, ORF Kärnten reported on Monday.

Officers spotted the car travelling at an apparently excessive speed at about 12.30 a.m. on Monday. They stopped it after following for some time. As they approached, the driver tried to pull away again, apparently to avoid a check of him and the vehicle, and collided with the patrol car.

The man, from the Villach-Land district, showed signs of alcohol intoxication, police said. He refused a breathalyser test, became agitated and aggressive, and insisted on continuing his journey. Officers provisionally arrested him and took him to a police detention centre.

He did not have a valid driving licence and will be reported to authorities.
