More than 300 dachshunds and their owners took part in Vienna’s first Wiener Walk on Sunday afternoon, according to organisers, ORF reported.
Many of the dogs wore Halloween costumes or rain gear. It was raining when the gathering began at a sausage stand in Spittelau. In the United States, the breed is often called a “Wiener” because of its short legs and long body.
Organiser Jakob Trost said the event aimed to bring dachshund owners together, raise awareness of the breed and its needs, and remind people to think carefully before getting one. “A dachshund is not a goldfish,” he said. Trost owns Hermann, a one-and-a-half-year-old dachshund.
After the strong turnout, Trost said further walks could be organised.
