Mountain rescue teams saved two people from alpine emergencies in Upper Austria on Friday, ORF reported. A 35-year-old German woman injured her ankle while descending Almkogel, a mountain near Mondsee in Vöcklabruck district.

In Bad Ischl, rescuers brought an exhausted 80-year-old hiker from Vienna down Jainzen, an 814-metre mountain. Police said he briefly risked falling on the steep, slippery trail in the upper third of the climb and called mountain rescue.

A passing hiker helped him and initially accompanied him downhill. As the man became more exhausted and unsteady, continuing on foot was barely possible. Mountain rescuers and an alpine police officer met the pair at about 700 metres and carried the uninjured man down on a mountain stretcher.
