A flag parade in Bad Radkersburg on Friday honoured Styria’s 60,000 emergency responders, ORF reported. The ceremony featured music from military, police and fire service bands.

Members of the fire service, Red Cross, crisis intervention team, police and armed forces attended. Styrian Governor Mario Kunasek, of the FPÖ, thanked the organisations for their daily work and support for people across the state.

Kunasek also praised responders’ families, saying their support made it possible for people to do their jobs. Bad Radkersburg Deputy Mayor Julia Paar said families often had to wait at home without knowing whether their relatives would return safely.

Participants said they appreciated the recognition. The ceremony ended with the raising of the red, white and red flag.
