Bregenz city representatives have approved a budget of about 4.3 million euros for a new youth centre and skatepark, ORF reports. The facilities, along with other sports areas, are planned for a site near the lake.

The new building will replace the outdated Between youth centre opposite the railway station. The city said a suitable location was identified during planning for Bregenz Mitte, allowing the youth centre and skatepark to be brought together.

Plans for the centre include a cafe, an event room, a workshop, a music studio and rehearsal rooms. Outdoors, a multisport facility is planned alongside the skatepark.

The city wants young people to help shape the plans and intends to begin a consultation process soon. Skaters will also be able to contribute to the design. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, and the existing skatepark is to remain open until the new one is ready.

A further one million euros is earmarked to renovate the recreation house by the Ach and the Westend youth centre. The ground floor is to be demolished and rebuilt. The rooms will remain largely the same size but are planned to be more flexible and accessible, with a high proportion of wood in the construction and improved insulation.
