Cigarette ignites mattress in Mayrhofen

A 59-year-old man fell asleep with a lit cigarette, setting fire to a mattress in Mayrhofen on Thursday night, ORF reported. A 25-year-old man in the same apartment put out the flames with a garden hose.

The fire broke out at about 11 p.m. A neighbour called the fire brigade after noticing smoke and the smell of burning. Firefighters arrived with 30 personnel and four vehicles, but only needed to ventilate the rooms.

Both men were taken to Schwaz hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. No other guests were injured.
