Prisoner injures prison officer with prepared glass shard
A prisoner attacked and injured an officer at Graz-Karlau prison on Thursday, ORF reported, citing police.
The 33-year-old officer was called to the prisoner’s cell through an intercom around midday. When he entered, the same-age prisoner attacked him with a glass shard that had been specially prepared with a rubber band as a hand guard.
The officer was wearing a stab-resistant vest but suffered a cut to his neck, which police classified as moderate to serious. He was taken to hospital. Other prison officers secured the prisoner, who police said was in measures custody.
The Styrian State Criminal Police Office is investigating.
