Carinthia, missing climbers, mountain rescue

Three teenagers who went missing during a mountain trip in the Schobergruppe mountain range were found unharmed in a hut on Thursday evening, ORF reported. They had been unable to contact their families because there was no mobile phone reception.

The two German teenagers, aged 17 and 18, and a Hungarian had abandoned their ascent of the 3,200-metre Petzeck on Wednesday because of a change in the weather. They told their relatives they would descend into the valley, but when they had not been heard from by Thursday evening, their families alerted emergency services.

The police helicopter Libelle located the three in the hut. They later made their own way down into the valley. A police alpine officer from Spittal/Drau was involved in the search, while the Heiligenblut mountain rescue team was on standby.
