Firefighters tackle blaze at waste facility in Katsdorf

About 200 firefighters are tackling a fire at a waste facility in Ruhstetten, in Katsdorf in the Perg district, ORF Upper Austria reported. The fire broke out in the early morning and has produced heavy smoke, worsened by wind.

The situation is under control, incident commander Christoph Neuhauser said. Fire crews also prevented the flames from spreading to a neighbouring office building. No one has been in danger.

Sixteen fire brigades have been called out. The work is expected to continue throughout the day as crews sort through the waste and extinguish remaining hotspots. The facility is freestanding.
