Six people were injured, including an 11-year-old girl who was thrown from a car’s trunk, when a car and a truck collided in Schladming on Wednesday evening, ORF reported.
The car was travelling on the Ennstal road, the B320, at about 6 p.m. when it collided with an oncoming truck near an intersection. Police said the car was carrying six German citizens, although it was licensed for five. The 40-year-old driver had the girl and two dogs in the trunk.
The girl was seriously injured and flown by rescue helicopter to Graz University Hospital. A 67-year-old passenger was also seriously injured. The driver and three other occupants sustained injuries of unspecified severity and were taken to hospital in Schladming. A vet treated the two dogs.
The truck broke through a guardrail, crossed onto a grass verge and overturned. Its 44-year-old driver, from Salzburg, was uninjured. Firefighters deployed 30 personnel and pumped diesel from the truck’s tank before it was recovered. The B320 was closed to all traffic during the clean-up.
