A 20-year-old man is suspected of driving at up to 247 km/h on a road with a 70 km/h speed limit in the Lilienfeld district, after posting a video of the drive on TikTok, ORF reported. Police say he has admitted to the offences.

An anonymous tip received on Tuesday alerted police to the video, which showed a car travelling through Wiesenfeld, in the built-up area of St Veit an der Gölsen. As the car passed the Wiesenfeld town sign, its speedometer showed 210 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The driver then accelerated to 247 km/h where the limit was 70 km/h.

After changing lanes, the driver also illegally passed a traffic island on the left. Police identified the local man, who will be reported to the district authority.

Authorities are also investigating whether another person filmed the drive and whether that person endangered the physical safety of others.
