Mark Dittli will become editor-in-chief of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung in February 2027, SRF reported. Eric Gujer, who has led the newspaper’s newsroom since 2015, will take on the newly created role of publisher for Germany.

The NZZ media group said Dittli stands for analytical, independent journalism with a strong liberal outlook. He has more than 25 years of media experience and a record of leading newsrooms and building modern media ventures.

Dittli studied business administration at the Higher School of Business and Administration in Winterthur and began his journalism career at the financial newspaper Finanz und Wirtschaft in 2000. He spent five years as its foreign correspondent in New York and was editor-in-chief from 2012 to 2017.

After a year at the online magazine Republik in 2018, Dittli co-founded the digital financial news outlet The Market with six partners in 2019. The NZZ was a minority shareholder from the outset and took full ownership at the end of 2023. The Market has operated in Germany since 2024.

Gujer, 64, has worked at the NZZ publishing group for 40 years, including as head of its foreign desk. Under his leadership, the NZZ expanded its reach and editorial influence in Germany. In his new role, he will work to strengthen the Swiss media group’s presence in the German market and focus on major issues in German and international politics.
