A fire at a horse farm in Lanzendorf, in the district of Bruck an der Leitha, killed three horses early Wednesday, ORF reported. No one was injured by the fire.

The blaze broke out at about 5 a.m., according to incident commander Dominik Gleissner. The roof of the riding stable was fully ablaze, prompting the highest alarm level, B4. Eighteen fire brigades, with 140 members, responded, and the B11 state road was closed.

Crews later declared the fire out, with mopping-up work continuing during the morning. The remaining animals were brought to safety, police spokeswoman Daniela Weissenböck said.

A resident stumbled over a fire hose and was taken to the hospital in Baden for a check-up. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and a police fire investigator was at the scene.
