Nearly half of privately registered new cars in Burgenland in September were all-electric, the highest share among Austria’s federal states, ORF reports.
Of 456 new private passenger-car registrations, 226 were electric vehicles, just under 50 percent. Upper Austria and Lower Austria had the next-highest shares. Including commercially registered vehicles, electric cars made up about 40 percent of new registrations in Burgenland.
The state government and the mobility ministry say the expansion of charging stations, low charging rates and subsidies are contributing to the trend. Burgenland has an electric vehicle charging station roughly every 13 kilometres, and new stations are being built. They are designed like conventional fuel stations, with a price display, sanitary facilities and a shop.
The state also supports electric mobility through the Burgenland Eco-Energy Fund, which helps pay for electric vehicles and private charging facilities.
