Austria, Lower Austria, road accident

A driver was injured after a car left a forest road, rolled over and plunged about 60 metres down a slope near Göstling an der Ybbs in Scheibbs district on Monday, ORF reported.

The crash happened at about 7.40am. The driver’s mobile phone appears to have detected the accident automatically and placed an emergency call, the fire brigade said.

Police, ambulance crews, mountain rescue and an emergency medical helicopter were already at the scene when firefighters arrived. The driver had been freed from the car and had injuries of unspecified severity. After receiving initial medical treatment, the driver was flown to Amstetten Regional Hospital.

The car came to rest against a tree. Firefighters later recovered it with help from a tractor belonging to a neighbouring farmer. Crews from the Göstling, Lassing and Lunz am See fire brigades attended.
